After a long gap, here I come with another travelogue. Recently, I went to New York and New Jersey and here are a few of my learnings through this blog. If you’re dreaming of exploring the vibrant streets, iconic landmarks, and diverse neighbourhoods of New York City but are worried about the potential costs, here are some amazing tips. I will help you experience the best of the city without breaking the bank. From affordable accommodations and transportation options to wallet-friendly dining and free or low-cost attractions, you can still do the adventure on a budget. So, let’s dive in and discover how you can navigate the concrete jungle without emptying your wallet!
Plan your visit during the off-peak season: New York City can be quite expensive, especially during peak tourist seasons. Consider visiting during the shoulder seasons (spring or fall) when the weather is still pleasant, and hotel rates tend to be lower.
Look for budget accommodation options: Consider staying in budget hotels, or hostels, or even explore vacation rentals or home-sharing platforms for affordable accommodations. Look for accommodations outside of Manhattan, such as in Brooklyn or Queens, which may offer better rates.

Iconic Statue of Liberty
Utilize public transportation: New York City has an extensive public transportation system, including buses and subways, which are affordable and convenient for getting around. Purchase a MetroCard for discounted fares and consider using apps like Citymapper to navigate the city efficiently.
Take advantage of free attractions and activities: New York City offers numerous free attractions that are worth exploring. Visit iconic landmarks like Times Square, Central Park, and the Brooklyn Bridge. Explore free museums on designated days or during specific hours, such as the Metropolitan Museum of Art or the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA).
Eat like a local: Avoid eating at touristy restaurants in popular areas, as they tend to be more expensive. Instead, venture into local neighbourhoods and try affordable food options like street food carts, delis, and ethnic eateries. Don’t forget to grab a slice of New York-style pizza!
Consider discounted or free events: Keep an eye out for discounted or free events happening in the city during your visit. Check out websites, local listings, or apps to find free concerts, festivals, outdoor movie screenings, and other cultural events.
Explore neighbourhoods on foot: Walking is a great way to explore the city and soak in its vibrant atmosphere. Each New York neighbourhood has its unique charm, so take some time to wander through areas like Greenwich Village, Chelsea, or the Lower East Side.

Green New York
Purchase attraction passes or discounted tickets: Look for attraction passes like the New York CityPASS or Explorer Pass, which offer discounted admission to multiple attractions. Additionally, websites and apps like Groupon often have deals and discounts for various activities and attractions.
Skip expensive souvenirs: Avoid buying souvenirs from touristy shops, as they tend to be overpriced. Instead, browse local flea markets or street vendors for unique and affordable souvenirs.
Stay hydrated and carry snacks: New York City can be fast-paced and dining out for every meal can add up. Stay hydrated by carrying a refillable water bottle and pack some snacks to keep your energy up while exploring the city.
Remember, with proper planning and budgeting, it’s possible to experience the best of New York City without breaking the bank!
